4 rivers began as a simple idea sparked at a backyard cookout in Sandy Springs, Georgia. John Rivers, a passionate pitmaster, wanted to bring the honest, slow-smoked flavors of the American South to every table — no shortcuts, no compromise.

In 2008, with a single smoker and an unwavering commitment to quality, the 4 rivers smokehouse opened its doors. Named after the four rivers that converge near our hometown, every meal honors the land, the tradition, and the community that shaped us.

2008

The First Smoke

John Rivers opens the original 4 rivers smokehouse in Sandy Springs, Georgia. A single offset smoker, a handwritten menu, and a line stretching out the door on opening day.

2011

First BBQ Award

4 rivers BBQ earns its first regional championship at the Georgia BBQ Festival, putting our brisket on the map. The trophy sits in our dining room to this day.

2014

Expanded Smokehouse

Growing demand led to a full facility expansion — a larger pit room, a dedicated catering kitchen, and the launch of our fan-favorite weekday specials program.

2017

Catering & Events Launch

4rivers officially launches its full-service catering division, bringing authentic slow-smoked BBQ to weddings, corporate events, and community gatherings across the United States.

2020

Delivery Goes Digital
